If you happen in the 8th or 9th arrondissement in Paris on a rainy day, Les Galeries Lafayette are the best place to go to. Even if you're overwhelmed by the prices or you're not a fashion enthusiast, there's still something for you to do...
...raise your eyes and look upwards: admire the unique Belle Epoque design of the Lafayette Coupole and atrium. Build in 1893 to serve as a department store, this building preserves the end-of-century feel and the beauty of the Art Nouveau architecture. There's beautiful ceilings and architecture for you to take in, not just expensive designer's stuff.
On Fridays, at 3 pm, there's a free fashion show you can attend at the 7th floor - but you need to make a reservation in advance (by e-mail: welcome@galerieslafayette.com, or by phone: +33 (0)1 42 82 36 40). And, if you really are a shopper and you wallet is packed with bills, you should know there are three building where you could splurge: the main building (LaFayette Coupole - designer collections, young fashion and children's fashion, cosmetics, jewelry and accessories, books, music, and electronics; LaFayette Homme (including a gourmet shop); and LaFayette Maison). Have fun!
