Thi Nghe Market

Major alert today: guests for dinner! After going shopping at Metro, Co op Mart, and several other supermarkets, we realized we should rely entirely on our local market across the street. Thi Nghe Market is located on the border between District 1 and Binh Thanh District. 2 minutes away from the Northern gate of the Zoo.
This is where Anthony Bourdain's Lunch Lady takes her ingredients from.

It's a very well-stocked market: vegetables, fruit, meat, seafood, dried food, cooked food, clothes, household items - everything for really good (local) prices. The vendors don't try to fool you just because you are a foreigner - some of then even speak English. We bought piles of vegetables, tofu, sauces, and three kinds of seafood (clams, squid, and shrimp) for less than $20.

Shrimp - 70,000 VND/kilo
Squid - fresh from the market - 50,000 VND/kilo
