This BBQ-themed open-air restaurant amazed me. I am trying to find things I don't like about it, and I just can't. We had a great time there tonight and we will definitely become regular clients. You should not miss a chance to visit this place when you are in HCMC - it's not in the heart of the tourist area, but in the posher one, yet the prices are well below those on noisy and (in my opinion!) dirty Pham Ngu Lao.
Barbecue Garden is a large place surrounded by trees, located at 135A Nam Ky Khoi Nghia in District 1, between Ben Than Market and People's Committee. It is an inexpensive and very fun restaurant, as the patrons can barbecue their food at their own tables. Each table has a gas operated hot plate in the middle, where one can grill meat skewers, vegetables, or seafood.
The menu is quite varied - appetizers, meats, seafood, vegetables, desserts, ice cream, juices, beers, wine, tea, coffee. Prices are low for a place like this: we paid 14,000 VND for a Green Saigon beer, 17,000 VND for a Red Saigon, 22,000 VND for a small plate of rice with garlic (which was not small at all!), 29,000 VND for a mixed vegetables plate (which we grilled for ourselves), and 36,000 VND for a helping of crab rolls (10 pieces) and salad. It was more than the two of us could eat and absolutely fresh and delicious.
The place offers free wi-fi and more than enough fans among the tables. One piece of advice: don't sit close to them, as they are very powerful and will blow cigarette or barbecue smoke in your face. In case of rain, there can easily cover the whole place. Service is very good, especially for such a crowded spot. You should consider making a reservation if you go there for a late dinner, to avoid waiting for a table. Take-away and delivery service are also available.
