LookAtVietnam reports that Ho Chi Minh City authorities have asked the Police to consider establishing a travel police office for the safety of tourists. The downtown area and the tourists sites are going to be safer.
The People’s Committees of districts were told to assign their police departments to combine with other forces to protect tourists. The Department of Transport is instructed to strictly control means of transport for tourists, especially taxies in the downtown area. The department will restructure bus stops in the downtown areas to serve tourists. As many tourists visiting Saigon have complained of having been cheated by taxi drivers, the HCM City Taxi Association will combine with the HCM City Department of Transport to supervise taxi service and punish cab drivers who break the rules and most often refuse to start meters.

  1. It is important for the police to be around to protect the tourist. Eventually the tourist will be the ones bringing income to Vietnam.
