Venice Beach (Los Angeles)

Venice is a beachfront neighborhood in West Los Angeles, California, whose layout imitates the canals in Venice. The place is known for its rich population, canals, huge beach, 2-mile long pedestrian walkway.

The rich neighborhood is a cute replica of the real Venice, yet you won't see any vaporettos or gondolas. But you can't miss the small speedboats and yachts that belong to these fortunate inhabitants, as well as the kayaks and and the boats that belong to the "less fortunate". Prominent residents of Venice include actresses Julia Roberts, Kate Beckinsale, or Anjelica Huston, as well as Nicholas Cage and Joshua Kadison.

Venice has always been known as a hangout for the creative and the artistic. In the 1950s and 1960s, it became a center for the Beat generation, an explosion of poetry and art. It still is today: from mainstream events organized here to underground venues or even impromptu artistic performances along the promenade, it is impossible not to notice the artsy feel of the place.

Venice is also home of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Lifeguard Division. And I easily understood why: the beach here is just awesome - super wide and clean, extremely fine sand, great waves, terrific sunsets. Not to miss a stroll along the Ocean Frontwalk, from Venice Fishing Pier to Santa Monica Pier.
